(“The Age” Special.) $ The Wairarapa Bowling Centre meets on Wednesday to decide on final arrangements respecting the visit of the British bowling team, which will reach Masterton about February 19. The committee of the Greytown Bowling Club met on Monday and authorised the delegates to agree to fitting arrangements for the entertainment of the team. It is estimated by the Centre that there are 300 active bowlers in the Wairarapa, in six clubs, and 40 players will be in action against tho British team. Each club in the district will be adequately represented. The Greytown Bowling Club has imported a fine roller from England, and this will serve to further improve the already splendid green, which reflects great credit on Mr G. Cartel, the caretaker. Personal. Mr W. W. Tully and Miss D. Tully are visiting the South Island and will be in Dunedin for the Exhibition. Earthquake. Monday’s earthquake did no damage in Greytown beyond disturbing nerves and shaking down a few articles in shops. Out of doors, the trees rustled uncannily and hordes of birds took hastily to the air. Rifle Shooting. * x A very attractive programme has been issued by the Wairarapa Rifle Association for its annual meeting at Papawai early in March. The prize money is rhe best offered in' the Dominion, and all the crack rifle shots will be competing. A movement is afoot by the Association to permit of mark VII. ammunition, and this will make for better shooting. The results of the Wanganui and Trcntham meetings proved this.

Greytown Main Road. A well-known North Island civil engineer visited Greytown this week and inspected the tarred main road through the borough. He was much impressed by the cheapness and durability of th)e work. The main part of the road has been down for 11 years, and, in his opinion, is still in splendid condition, due largely to the quality of the local gasworks’ tar. Well-earned Holidays. Very temporarily free from the cares of State the Minister for Lands (the Hon. A. D. McLeod) has been busy with farming operations an bis farm at Mangapari. Winged Visitors. Greytown has been the home of countless birds in the last few weeks and they have taken heavy toll from the orchards.
