Too late she realises her mistake, and informs John that she is -married. They leave, but later in the city meet, and Mary receives a surprise when she learns that John has beeto engaged.to fill a position in Ker husband’s office. John is invited to his employer’s home for a few days, and there meets Mary. - They realise the hopelessness of their position, and are saying “good-bye” in Mary’s room when the Uouse catches on firm They are afraid to go <*t, and remain, in the burning building till the husband forces the i door and rescues them.
