MIRAMAR TOURNAMENT. CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY T. It. HORTON. WEI/ INGTON, Jan. 3.—The final iday of the Miramar Golf Club’s tournament was characterised by some feplendid play in most difficult conditions. Heavy rain overnight made the turf in great order, but the morning was boisterous, a heavy southerly thoroughly testing the competitors. The final of the championship, won 'Ey T. H. Horton, of Masterton, provided a keen contest, J. H. Drake, the foher finalist, making a splendid recovery after standing five down at Seventh hole to finish with his opponent 4 and 2.—(P.A.) (In the semi-finals, Horton beat IConway 4 and 3, and Drake beat .Whyte, 4 and 2.) THE FINAL DESCRIBED. Both got well away from*the first Jtee, against the wind. Horton found the green with his third, Drake getting the bunker. Horton won 5—6. jHorton won the second in 4, Drake Mnissing a short putt. The long third, into the teeth of the wind, was won Jby the Mirimar man 5 —6. Horton then put in a great run, taking the (fourth in 3, fifth in 3 and the sixth in 2, making him 5 up. The difficult hillside hole was halved in good jfours. • Drake won the eighth in 4. iHorton 4 up. Drake played the long pth with perfect golf, hitting 3 fine shots to the green he holed out in E> to Horton’s 6. Horton 3 up. Horton was out in 38 to Drake’s 41. ■ The 10th was halved in 4. Horton deemed to lose touch for a few holes ?nd Drake, playing fine golf j won the 11th in 4, and the 12th in 4, reducing iHorton’s lead to 1 up. The 13th was halved in 5/Drake hit a gre'at mashie fihot at the 14th to within six feet of the pin. Horton’s shot was short. iHorton holed from there, winning the hole 2 —3. Horton won the 15th in ■4 to 5, winning the match, 4 and 2. Hort.on wanted two s’s for a 76, which, under the conditions, was a ■great round. To “The Age” Horton was loud in his praise of the Miramar course, no said the greens were in perefect condition and he would not wish to play i>n better links.
