Mr C. C. Jaekson (Kopuaranga) is visiting Wellington on Farmers’ Union business. v Mr R. H. Vincent, of the Masterton branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been transferred to the Opunake branch. Mr S. R. Thomson, manager of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Masterton, was elected a, member of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce yesterday. Mr C. Bowles, a popular member of the Bank of New Zealand staff at Masterton for soniy years, has left on transfer to Auckland. The Masterton Savage Club tendered him a farewell korero before his departure.
Sgt. G. Willingham, of Eketahuna, who has been confined to his bed for the past fortnight suffering from injuries to the spine caused through being thrown from his horse while proceeding to the 7th (W.E.C.) M.R. camp, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
The members of the P. and T. Engineers’ Department met yesterday to farewell Mr T. Paton, who leaves this morning on promotion to Napier.. On behalf of the staff the Telegraph Engineer (Mr J. W’ebster) presented Mr Paton with a gold watch chain and a Doulton teapot. ,
The death is announced from Auckland of Mr Malcolm Niccol, shipowner and agent, aged 81 years. Deceased was born in Auckland and educated at Mr John Gorri&’s Academy. He was a member of the Devonport Road Board and Borough Council for 25 years, holding office of mayor periodically. He was a member of the Auckland Harbour Board and Hospital Board for 20 years, and also founded the N.Z. Natives’ Association. He contested the Eden scat as a Liberal in 1893 and 1899. For nearly 60 years he was a prominent Mason, being permanent Grand Secretary from 1900 till 1921.
