SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.
(“The Age" Special.) Good Record. The honours board at the South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club, Greytorm, contains the names of 18 past presidents and 17 life members. The Memorial Board shows that 16 members paid the supreme sacrifice in the late war. Funeral. There was a representative gathering of settlers and members of the Totara Lodge of Druids at the funeral of the late Mr Daniel Brown, of Ahiaruhe, which took place on Saturday afternoon at the Clareville Cemetery. The casket bearers were Bros. Alt. and Alex. Johnson, E. Harland, Archie McPhee (Druids), and Messrs E. Gray and .1. A. Wallace. The service at the graveside was conducted oy the Rev. Father Hegarty, of Carterton. Marketing Association. Mr G. D. MacFarlane, London representative of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Marketing Association, will visit the Wairarapa this week and give addresses in Martinborough and Carterton. ' Market Wanted. At Saturday’s meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society at Greytown Mr J. Meiklc urged the society to arrange for the chairman of the Meat Control Board to give an address at Carterton to farmers on a date to be arranged. Mr K. W. Gorringe, the Government instructor, had addressed the farmers at Greytown on the breeding of pigs, and the farmers now wanted to know something of the market prospects for pork. It was decided 1 to endeavour to arrange for the chairman of the Meat Control Board to give an address in Carterton onj a date to be arranged. Sports Meeting. It was decided at Saturday’s meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society to recommend to the incoming committee that a sports meeting be arranged to take place on Boxing Day at Carterton to assist the society’s funds. Farmers’ Union.
The Hon. A. D. McLeod has accepted an invitation to be present at the Fanners’ Union social to be held in Greytown next month. Biver Beard.
The Waiohine River Board has by special order levied a rate of 3d in the pound on rateable properties in the Waiohine river district for the ensuing year. Obituary.
The death took place at Carterton on Saturday of Mrs Mary Louisa Armstrong, aged 75, relict of the late Adam Armstrong. A grown-up family is left.
