A STATESMAN’S DEATH.
EULOGIES OF LORD CURZON. NO FRIEND OF FRANCE. (Received 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 21—Directly the Commons met Mr Baldwin said he was sure the whole House would regret Lord Curzon’s death. He would move the official motion on Monday. The Rt. Hon. J. H. Thcmas, on behalf of the Labopr Party, sympathised with the Cabinet in the loss of a great and loyal colleague. TEe country lad lost a great statesman. Sir Godfrey Collins paid a tribute on behalf of the Liberals. The newspapers pay extended and warm tributes to Lord Curzon’s life achievements under the handicap of a spinal injury. There is a strong opinion that Earl Balfour will be invited to accept the Cabinet vacancy. The funeral service will be held at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday, and the interment at Kedleston (Derbyshire) on Thursday. PARIS, March 21.—Though the press pays a tribute to Lord Curzon as a great British statesman all sections agree that he was no friend of France. The Right papers attribute to his inelastic and unadaptable mind most of the post war Anglo-French friction. —(A. and N.Z.)
