SOUND SALE FOE STOEE SHEEP. IMPROVED MARKET FOR FATS. CHRISTCHCURCH, Mar. 18.— There were again heavy yardings in all classes of adult sheep and cattle. Store sheep.—Ono of the biggest entries of the season and a sound sale throughout, big entries of owes from the North Inland, Nelson and local sheep selling at a shade firmer values. Forward lambs 26/9 to 30/3, ordinary 23/6 to 26/, medium 22/ to 23/, small .19/6 to 21/9, cull 15/ to 19/, extra good 2-th J-bd ewes 49/6 to 51/6, good 2 th I bd 44/ to 46/6, good 2 th Rom. cross ewes 40/ to 42/6, small 36/ to 59/, good 4, 6 and & th xbd ewes 38/6 to 41/, ordinary 32/ to 38/, good 4 and 5 yr } bd ewes 38/ to 40/, lowconditioned 29/ to 35/, f.m. do. 26/ to 30/6, f.m. xbd ewes 27/ to 30/9, aged ewes 12/6 to 22/, 4 and 6 th Rom. cross wethers 33/, inferior J bd wethers 26/6 to 30/, J bd 2 th do 24/6 to 28/9.
Fat lambs. —A small entry and an improved market by 1/ to 1/6 per head. Prime to 36 lbs made 121 d, other qualities according to schedule rates. Extra prime lambs 44/, prime 38/ to 41/, med. 35/ to'37/6, light 32/6 to 34/9, store 26/ to 32/. Fat sheep.—An average-sized yarding and an improved market, particularly for ewes, of which exporters bought freely. Extra prime wethers 48/7, prime 38/ to 42/, med, 35/ to 37/6, light 31/ to 34/6, extra prime ewes 43/6, prime 33/6 to 37/6, med. 29/6 to 33/, light 26/ to 28/6, aged 22/6 to 25/.
Fat cattle.—Another heavy yarding of over 500 head. Cows were in big over-supply. Good beef eased slightly and cow beef by about 20/ per head. Best beef made 33/ to 36/ per 100 lb, medium 31/ to 32/6, light 25/ to 30/, and rough down to 15/. Extra prime steers £l6 12/6, prime £l3 10/ to £l5 5/, med. £lO 15/ to £l3 5/, light £8 5/ to £lO 10/, rough £6; extra prime heifers £l3 2/6, prime £8 10/ to £lO 10/, ord. £4 to £B, extra prime cows £l2 10/, prime £7 15/ to £lO, ord. £4 15/ to £7 10/, aged £3 to £4 10/. Vealers.—Runners ,to £5, good vealers £2 10/ to £4 5/, good-calves £1 5/ to £2 5/. Store cattle.—A nondescript entry. A pen of 5 year steers made £7 2/6. Dairy cattle.—Cows at drop sold well. Best 2nd to 4th culvers £lO to £l4 15/, med. £6 to £9 10/, best heifers £8 to £l2, med. £5 10/ to £7 10/, old cows 30/ to £3 10/. Fat pigs.—A good sale. Choppers to £6 13/6, baeoners £3 15/ to £5, av. per lb 6|d to 7Jd, light porkers £2 10/ to £2 17/6, heavy £3 to £3 7/, av. per lb 7|d to B}d.
Store pigs.—A medium entry. Large stores were easier and other classes firmer. Weaners 13/6 to 22/6, small stores 25/ to 33/, med. 35/ to 40/, large 49/, sows in pig £3 10/ to £4 10/.—(P.A.)
