MASTERTON GALA WEEK.

A meeting of the General Committee was held last night. There were present Messrs AV. S. L. Dickson (chairman), R. H. Hill, W. J. Campbell, A. G Allan, H. J. Fairchild, A. Rippon, F. J. Hunu, F. Whitton, P. M. Velvin, W. H. Jackson, and J. Moody. Apologies were received from Messrs V. 8. Wilton, G. H. Perry, R. J. Young 8. H. Conder, A. H. Daniell and G. Daubney.

Mr Dickson suggested that long willow sticks be used in the lantern parade; the effecte would be better than last year.

Regarding the function in Queen street on February 14 and 16, it was resolved that a deputation wait on the Borough Council and explain the reason further. It was resolved to order special envelopes for the use of business people, giving the dates of the gala and show week, the envelopes to be printed in royal blue.

It was decided to ask the Maoris to assist at the entertainment on February 28, the night the Art Vnion is drawn.

The Minister for Internal Affairs wrote authorisisg the raffle in connection with the Art Union. The following programme was agreed upon:— Saturday, February 14. —2 p.m., Children’s fancy dress parade and sports on the Park Oval. (The Ju ven. ilc Band be asked to assist). 8 p.m., Fancy dress Carnival and Jazz in Queen street. (The Municipal Band to be asked to assist). Monday, 16. —3.30 p.m., Official Opening ceremony by the Mayor. 4 p.m., Procession of new motor cars. 8 p.m., Entertainment by Maoris in the Park Oval.

Tuesday, 17.—8 p.m., Lantern parade and sports on Park Oval. (The Municipal Band to be asked to assist). Wednesday 18.—8 p.m., Fancy Dress Dance in Municipal Hall. Thursday, 19.—8 p.m., Al fresco concert and dance on Park Oval. (The Pioneer Orchestra to be asked to assist).

Friday, 20.—8 p.m., Cabaret and Jazz in Social Hall.

Saturday, 21.—2 p.m., Grand procession and trades display; sports on Park Oval (Municipal Band), 8 pan., Fireworks display and Lantern parade. ((Municipal Band to assist). The question of lighting the Park was left in the hands of the Athletic Committee, with the addition >of Mr J. Moody.

The next meeting of the Committee will be held on January 5.
