DISTRICT NEWS.
AFLREDTON. (“The Age” Special.) A well-attended meeting of the A*fredton Tennis Club took place on Thursday last, when a credit balance of £4 15s was shown. Miss R- Percy, who has been secretary since the club was formed, tendered her resignation, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her past services; The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr S. B. George (re-elected); secretary, Mr R. Lowe; committee, Messrs F. Percy, L. Percy, T. A. Weston, A. Sutton and T. Smith. On Thursday last a committee of ladies dispensed afternoon tea at the stock sale. The amount of £2 13s was gathered in aid of th; Public Hall fund. Mrs and Miss Rita Saunders, of Glen Oroua, are at present on a visit to Mrs Saunders’s sister, Mrs S. Edmonds, of “Mona.” Mr and Mrs L. W. Cross have returned after a brief visit to Wellington. The Alfredton. branch of the Farmers’ Union have issued an invitation to the Tiraumea branch to a debate which is to take place on Saturday evening, November 8, the subject selected. being cattle raising.
