Mr T. Fielding, of Auckland, is visiting Masterton. Mr Stephen Moynagh (Wellington) is visiting Masterton. Mr R. W. Steel (Wellington) was n visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr and Mrs S. M. George and family, of Alfredton, are on a fortnight’s visit to Seatoun. Mr B. Francis, of the Bank of New South Wales, Masterton, leaves on Monday on transfer to Palea. Mr and Mrs H. O. Toogood (Waiana) will leave shortly to spend a few months of the winter in Australia. Mr L. Heckler, Mangamahoe, has increased his donation to the Eketahuna War Memorial fund by £lO 10s. Mrs Bromley Hill, of Napier, arrived in Masterton yesterday to officiate as official accompaniste at the Masterton Competitions. Miss Ramsay, infant mistress at the Fernridge school, has been transferred to Lyall Bay and will be succeeded by Miss Cairns. The Rev. Oliver Haddon, who has been the guest of the Rev. C. A. and Mrs Foston for a few days, has left Pahiatua for Hawkes Bay. The death has occurred of Mrs W. Bedmind at Lower Hutt. Mrs Redmond formerly resided in Cartcrten, where her husband was licensee of the Oiub Hotel, Mr A. M. Henderson (of Dalgety and Co.) and Mrs Henddrson will leave* by the Manganui next Tuesday on a six weeks’ holiday in Sydney and Melbourne, r Mr Gordon Elliott (formerly of Masterton) has been selected as the Relorni (ULfididatc fot the Orona seat at the next election, on the retirement of the Hon. D. H. Guthrie. Mr H. R. Bloxam, who has been on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Dannevirke for the past 12 years, has received advice of his promotion to manager at Featherston. Air R. B. Ross, ex-M.P. for Pahiatua, who for many years past has been a member of tho Hawkes Bay Land Board, has been declared duly reelected unopposed for a further term. Mr A. E. Reader was complimented at the Miki Miki householders’ meeting on his completion of 17 years as a member of the school committee and on tho good work done by him ifi that period. His Grace Archbishop Redwood, accompanied by the Rev. Father Smith, of Thorndon, will leave for Europe via Vancouver on May 13, to attend an apostolic congress in Amsterdam in July. A pretty wedding took place yesterday* when Miss Grace Garrett, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. R. Garrett, of FownaU street, was married to Mr William Martin Thomas, of Martinborough. The bride was attired in a handsome coat frock of nigger brown trimmed with braid and silver buttons, with hat to match. She was attended by Miss K. Smith, who wore a navy blue costume. The best man was Mr Harold Butcher. A reception was afterwards held at the residence of the bride’s parents, Pownall street, and later the happy couple left by train for Hawkes Bay. A youthful shootist from Eketahuna was prominent in tjie South Island Rifle Association championship meeting. The Blenheim paper says: “Quite the outstanding feature of the meeting was the showing made by Cadet P. Page (son of Mr and Mrs T. M. Page, of Eketahuna), of Nelson College. He is only 14 years of age, and, like the other Nelson College boys, has only been using the long rifle for a month, having previously used a .22. He had a great record; commencing by scoring 46 in the 800yds match, in which the highest score was 48. In the 900 yards he made 44, the highest being 47. He wound up with a grand aggregate of 292, and was within 2 points of being included in the final 18 to shoot for Championship Belt. Page takes the Major Oak’s trophy for the cadet with the highest aggregate. He was third in the tyro aggregate.”
