HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated May 3, from the High Commissioner: BUTTER. New Zealand market quiet at ; advance . The rise in L’at sn b. ",c?ncipally due to Germany buying. New Zealand: Salted, finest, 170/ to 174/ per cwt. (l/6£ to 1/6} per lb); unsalted 176/ to 182/ per cwt (1/6} to 1/7} per lb). Other qualities, 140/ to 158/ per cwt (1/3 to 1/6 per lb). Australian: Salted, finest 160/ to 162/ per cwt (1/5} per lb). Unsalted: 164/ to 166/ per cwt. (1/5} to 1/5} per lb). Other qualities, salted and unsalted, 130/ to 156/ per cwt. (1/2 to 1/4} per lb). Argentine: Finest 148/ to 156/ per cwt (1/4 to 1/4} per lb). Other qualities 126/ to 146/ per cwt (1/1} to 1/3} per lb). Danish: Market slow 202/ per cwt. (1/9} per lb). CHEESE. Market quiet at last quotations after the rise to about 90/ per cwt early this week. English, finest farmers’. Market steady. 140/ to 145/ per cwt (1/3 to 1/3} per lb). New Zealand: Market quiet. Coloured and white 86/ to 88/ per cwt. (9}d t< 91 per lb). Shipments of New Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Port Sydney, Suffolk, and Matakana. Estimated cheese stocks available on May 1 at wharves and docks London, Liverpool and Bristol were:—• Canadian and American 5050 boxes; New Zealand and Australian 131,200 crates; against 14,100 boxes and 31,200 crates respectively last year. WOOL. Bradford market less active but values generally maintained. Prices for tops are:—64’s (merino) 5/11, 56’s (super }-bred) 4/, 40’s prepared (coarse xbd) 2/3}. FRUIT. All apples ex Cornwall, with the exception of hard varieties, are disappointing and flesh collapse Is more serious than was expected. Cox’s Orange affected very seriously and this variety has been auctioned. Prices were 4/ to 15/ per case. Prices for New Zealand are:—Cox’s Orange 5/ to 18/ per case, Jonathans 12/ to 16/, Dunn Favourites 13/ to 16/, King Davids 14/, Ribston Pippin 13/ to 14/, Adams Permain 14/ to 15/, Worcester Pennain 14/ to 15/, Sharps 8/ to 8/6.
