Breakfast is becoming a much lighter meal in England than it was a few years ago, perhaps owing to the knowledge of the light French breakfast gained by Britons during the war. There arc believed to.be more public libraries, in proportion to population, iu Ontario than in any state or province in world. For a population of 3,000,000 there arc 460 libraries. Bead chains, which are once again fashionable, may eost as much as £lOO each; but quite good imitations of Cornelian, amber and jade can be obtained for as little as 2s 6d each. Protests regarding the present high prices of Government publications arc being made to the Treasury by the Library Association, which represents all the public libraries of the United Kingdom.
