ARCTIC FLIGHT.

PURELY SCIENTIFIC. AMUNDSEN’S ATTEMPT. London, Mar. 23.—Captain Hammer, the Danish explorer, has arrived to make final arrangements for Captain Raoul Amundsen’s attempt to fly across the North Pole from Spitzbergen, via Alaska. It is proposed to start at the end of July. The actual flying time is estimated at from 24 to 26 hours. The two large Dornier aeroplanes are being constructed at Pisa, and will cost £BOOO each. Their radius of action is 1300 miles, and they are capable of landing on ice or water. ThO stopping places will depend on circumstances. It is emphasised that the venture is in no way concerned with the annexation of territory, and is solely in the interest of scientific research.
