DEMAND FOR STORE EWES.

Christchurch, March 15.—The yardings were again large, although smaller than they were last week. Store ewes met with a keen, sale and forward lambs also were in active demand. Fat lambs recovered last week’s easing. Beef was firmer, and fat sheep were praicrioally nnchanged Store sheep.—A heavy yarding, the bulk being ewes, a proportion being From distant parts of the Island. The demand, particularly for good ewes, was remarkable keen. Sales were somewhat irregular, and for all but very prime wethers the demand was scarcely as keen. Extra prime wethers 25s to 33s 6d, prime 19s 6d to 22s ( 6d, medium 17s 6d to 19s 3d, lighter 16s to 17s 3d, prime ewes 15s 9d to 19s, medium 13s 3d to 15s 6d, light 9s to 13s. Fat cattle.—3l7 penned. A brisker sale for prime beef, which sold from 30s to 32s 6d per lOOlbs, secondary down to 20s. Extra prime steers to £l6 12s 6d, prime £ll to £l4 17s 6d, medium £8 5s to £lO 12s 6d, inferior £6 to £B. extra prime heifers £ll ss, prime £6 5s to £8 17s 6d, ordinary £4 5s 6d, prime cows £5 18s to £7 15 s, ordinary £3 1.5 s to £5 10s. Veaters.—Calves fit for butchering were in short supply and showed a sharp advance in price. Runners £6, good vealers £3 10s to £4 -ss, medium £2, £2 ss, small calves 3s and upwards. Store cattle.—A small yarding mostly nondescript lots; a fair demand. Eighteen months’ heifers £3 10s, good 2-year to £4, 2J-year steers £3 15s. 2-year £3 2s 6d, vearlings £2 to £3 Is. Dtory Cattle.—A fairly large yarding; last week’s prices were maintained. Good second and third ca-lvers £8 to £l2, ordinary £4 to £7 10s, good springing heifers £l3, ordinary £7 10s to £ll, aged and inferior cows £1 10s to £4. Fat pigs—A big entry; prices about equal to last week’s. Choppers £2 10s to £5 17s (id, light baconers £3 5s to £3 10s, heavy £3 15s to £4 10s, extra heavy to £5 (average price per lb 6Jd), light jwrkers 45s to 50s, heavy 55s to 60s (average price per lb 8d to BJd).
