THE Wairarapa Age MO RNING DAILY. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 1922. HOPEFUL PIHAUTEA.

If there are some soldier settlers in the Wairarapa who are struggling against despeifite odds during the slump, there are others whom fortune favours and who bid fair to pulthrough to a comfortable future. Of all the settlements in this district probably none has a more contented lot of settlers than Pihautea, and certainly none shows more evidence of active development and prosperity. This applies generally to the farms located .on the flats abutting on the Ruamahunga river, but less forcibly to those on the higher portion of the settlement. The flat country is particularly suited for dairying, with good grass and ample water, and th? settlers are drawing regular monthly cheques from their own cheese factory. They have shown their confidence in their future by purchasing a good deal of pedigree stock as a foundation for their dairy herds, and almost 'all of them are adopting the modern prue tice of growing a certain amount of lucerne or other greon feed for the winter. The soldiers on Pihautea have their difficulties just now in common with all others, but they are sticking close at their task, and are looking for ward hopefully to getting round the corner.
