CARTERTON v. UNITED. This match was played at Carterton, on a much-improved wicket. The former batted first and obtained a total of 90 runs, Smith 29 and Phelps 15, being the chief scorers. F. Hoar came off with a nice average of 5 for 39, his bowling in this innings being his best this season; while F. Phillips (3 for 35) also bowled well. The remaining bowlers were F. Southgate (1 for 11) and A. Robson (1 for 0). At the fall of the last wicket Uwited had compiled 173 runs. The mam feature of the game was A. Hoar’s sound batting for 44, made by good all-round strokes, which included a six out of the ground. E. Bundle, with 35, was particularly good on the leg-side. A. Dixon, though not very ■confident at times, ran up 2-1 runs. Billie Hoar made his usual sky hits; one he got out of the Park" for six, hi s total reaching 14, off one of Smith’s overs.
