Wrangle, winner of the Vauxhall Handicap on the concluding day at Takapuna, is a three-year-old gelding by Hymettus—iSuooze (dam of Viyella). . After the Feilding meeting Sir Fanciful was sent home to his owner for a spell. While at Feilding, J. Brown, trainer of Rational, went through to Palmerston to have a look at a youngster by Sarto—Heather, a sprinter up the Coast a few seasons back, that was offered to him to train. Brilliant Step, dam of Kyoto, is not a Stud Book mare, but is probably identical with a mare by Stepson (Stepniak—Britomart), who did stud duty in the Wanganui district, from Lady Jewel. A London cablegram announces the death of the stallion Cyllene, whose record as racer and sire gave him a place with the most illustrious. Cyllene, who was got by Bona Vista (a son of Ben d’Or) from Arcadia (daughter of Isonomy) was one of the great Stockwell line. Though he did not contest any classic races, he captured stakes in a comparatively short career to the value of £25,030. Cyllene was subsequently bought by Captain V . Bass for 30,000 guineas, and later on sold to a South American breeder for a similar sum.
