CRICKET.
THE HAWKE CUP. “Onlooker,” discussing in the “Chmnicle” the recent cricket match at Masterton, says: ‘ ‘The win was no fluke, but thanks to good team work, judicious captaincy, fine batting by Cameron and Smith, and fine bowling by Bennett, a win thoroughly on its merits. Although there were a few defections, the team to jdurncy to Wairarapa was more representative than any other team Rangitikci has put in the field for years, and justified the local belief that a real Rangitikei eleven would take some beating. Cameron has developed into a thoroughly good s bat. His perfect timing in his cuts was the subject of continuous applause from the very fair-minded and sporting Masterton spectators.
“Nelson is reputed to have a team that can lift the Hawke Cup easily, but local admirers, at any rate, have a good deal of faith in the representatives.”
