TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
LAURENSON BEATS OLLIVIER. Christchurch, Dec. 30.—The tournament was continued to-day, in perfect weather. The courts were fast, and in excellent order. A feature of the day’s play was the defeat of G. Ollivler (Canterbury) by Dr. Laurenson. (Waikato) in the men’s singles. OUivier took the first two sets, but Laurenson, playing steadily and smashing brilliantly on occasions, managed to take the next three of the match. Results:— Men's siugles: Fourth round.— Griffiths beat Denton 6-1, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5; Laurenson beat Peacock, 3-6, 6-3* 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. In the semi-final, Laurenson beat Ollivier 4-6, 3-6, 7-5, ’ i-4, 8-6; Bartlett defeated Griffiths 6-3, 9-7, 6-4. Txidies’ singles : Third round. —Mrs M atson beat Miss Fenwick 6-3, 7-5. .Semi-final: Miss Majorie MacFarlane beat Miss Bain 6-3, 7-5; Miss Curtis beat Mrs Watson 6-4, 6-4. Men’s Doubles: Third round.—Sims aud Griffiths beat France and France, Robson and Bartlett beat Peacock aud Salmond. Semi-final: Goss and Greenwood beat Bray and Clark; Robson and Bartlett beat Sims and Griffiths. Conibinel Doubles : Semi-final.—-Miss Curtis and OUivier beat Miss Marjorie .Macfarlane and Robson, Mrs Marshall and Bartlett beat Miss Bain • and Clark. Ladies’ Doubles: Final.—Mrs W. J. Melody and Miss N. E. Curtis (Wellington) beat Mrs C. J. Marsliall and and Miss Marjorie Macfarlane (Auckland). Boys’ Junior Singles: Final.—E. D. Andrew® (Palmerston North) beat W. R. Rob'nson (Canterbury). Girls’ Junior Singles : Final.—l Miss A. Howe (Wellington) beat Miss E. H. Reeves (Canterbury).
