Mr Henry Milne Scott has been reelected Mayor of Suva for the seventh time. The Rev. Percival E. James, vicar Of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Auckland, has been appointed a canon. The Hon. Mark Cohen and Mrs Cohen, of Dunedin, returned to New Zealand bj T the Niagara. Mr F. Craven has been, re-elected unopposed as the parents’ representative on the board of the Dannevirke High School. / The Apostolic delegate to Australasia, Archbishop accompanied By nis private secretary, Dr. Farrelly, has left for Sydney. Mr. H. P. Horne, of Woodville, who has been ill for some weeks, has now recovered sufficiently to enable him to resume business. A Sydney cablegram states that Aiderman W. P. McElhone has been selected by the Civic Reform Party for the Lord Mayoralty. His election is assured. Mr T. Hall, district land registrar,registrar of deeds, and examiner of titles at Auckland for the last eleven years, will retire from the public service at the end of the year. Mr. A. K. Dyne left Eketahuna yesterday for Featherston where he takes up his duties as stationmaster. His successor, Mr. R. R. Kearney takes control at Eketahuna on Saturday. Mrs Agnes Cohen, of Featherston, has been appointed librarian at Masterbon. Mrs Cohen is a daughter of Mrs Hogg, of Masterton, and the late Mr A. W. Hogg, ex-M.P. Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, and the Rev. Father Coffey, of Dunedin, two very well-known Roman Catholic .ecclesiastics, are to leave Sydney on February 21 for England. A London cable states that Princess Mary’s marriage will be fixed for February 21 or 22, at the Chapel Royal, St. James’s. Viscount Lascelles is likely to be made a Privy Councillor.

Mr J. F. Munnings, architect to the Board of Governors of the Wairarapa High School, will visit Masterton next week to confer regarding the plans.

Senator Pearce (Australian delegate to the Washington Conference) may succeed Mr Mark Sheldon as Australian Trade Commissioner at Washington. Mrs Pearce sails for Washington by the Niagara on the 15th. A telegram from Gisborne announces the death of Mr W. R. Willock, a well-known resident. Deceased went to Gisborne from Leeston in 1892 as accountant in the Bank of New Zealand and retired eight years ago. He was a son of the late Archdeacon Willock, and was 68 years of age.

A London cable states that Lady Walker has obtained a decree nisi against Sir Robert James Walker on the ground of cruelty and misconduct.

The couple lived for three years (191619) in New Zealand, Sir Robert being employed as a member of the Imperial General Staff after being wounded in France.

The well-fcnown light opera composer Ivan Caryll, died at New York on November 29. Among his compositions may be included the undermentioned popular light operas:—

“The Pink Lady,” “The Runaway Girl,” “Kissing Time,” “Our Miss Gibbs,” ‘*The Orchid,” and “The Toreador. ’ ’
