SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (Our Travelling Exporter.) Bro. C. H. Beuck presided over a meeting of the Carterton Oddfellows Lodge, at which Bro? E. Poise n. V.G., of Loyal Greytown Lodge was pyessent. A vote of condolence was passed to Bros. J. A. and C. Tinsley in the loss of their mother. The following nominations were made for the positions oi district officers: P.Mi, P.G. Bro. J. H. Langley; D.G.M., P.G. Bro. Cledhill; trustee, P.D.G.XJ. Bro. W. I. Clark; book examiners. P.G. Bro. T. Palmer and P.G. Bro. A. Murray; management committee. P.D.G.M. Bro. C. J. DeLacey and P.G. Bro. P. M. Smith. The Carterton Defence Riffe Club will open its new range on Saturday afternoon v the first shot being fired by the AJhypr (Mr W. Howard at 2 p.m. The range is situated on Mr A. E. Booth’s property and is reported to be one of the liest in the district. The whole of the JTrrangements were brought into being through the instrumentality of “working bees,” and their completion are a credit to the rifle enthusiasts of the district. The public are invited to participate in the opening ceremony. It is reported that Mr Arthur Phillpotts, stationer, of Carterton, has disposed of his business to •Mr Peter Blatchford. All the surplus labour of the district appears to be absorbed in haymaking or other farm work. The sad intelligence was received at Featherston yesterday of the death at M anganui of Mrs Benton, wife oi Mr Archie Benton, in her 30th year. The deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Mr R. Williams, and was well known and highly respected throughout the South Wairarapa. Messrs R. E. and H. L. Williams, of Kaiwaiwai are brothers and Mrs S. Feast, of Greytown, a sister. The deceased leaves a widower and young family to mourn their loss.
