RECIPROCITY WITH AUSTRALIA.
It is satisfatcory to learn from Mr Massey that negotiations for a reciprocal tariff arrangement between New Zealand and the Commonwealth of Australia will be eoinmeneed during the recess. The mutter has been in abeyance fifteen years since the last attempt. It is rather curious that two countries so closely associated as Australia and New Zealand should see so little of each other officially. It is many years since a New Zealand Premier visited Australia, and the Commonwealth has never sent its Prime Minister on an official visit to New Zealand. The tariff negotiations might afford a suitable opportunity for inviting Mr Hughes to pay a few weeks ’ visit to the Dominion. „
