A WORD FROM CARDIFF.

The commercial and industrial capital of Wales, Cardiff, is out to make itself known in New Zealand, and to demand a share of the trade of the Dominion. We have received from the Develop* mefft Agent’s Office in Cardiff a little booklet giving the most striking facts of “the most modern city in Great Britain,” and it certainly puts forward a good sturdy claim to a hearing. Within 30 miles it has a population of

2,000,000, within 90 miles 10,000,000. It is nearer to New Zealand than any other English port; and “its geographical position makes it logical and economic port and centre of distribution for South Wales and the Midland counties of England.” No doubt Bristol would have something to say to that. But in any case it is satisfactory, since London has proved a broken reed in the marketing of our produce, to find more modern ami on terprising ports reaching out to join up with us.
