MASTERTON CLUB. Although a number of games remain unplayed, the committee has decided to close the club championship tourney, the unfinished games not affecting the result. A start was made last club evening for the Dagg Shield. This year the contest is to be a “one life” tourney —that is, after the first round winners play winners, the last man in to have the shield. The drawings for. the first round resulted as follows, the winners being mentioned first:— H. L. Taylor v. W. J. Gibson. H. L. Thirtle v. J. Catherall. F. P. Welch v. R. J. Barton. W. C. Franks v. B. Holmwood. E. Rigg v. A. Clemas. N. Catherall v. B. Clemas. The game W. R. Jones v. H. E. Warner was left over, both players being absent. SECOND ROUND. The drawings for the second round, te be played on Monday evening, are: F. P. Welch plays H. L. Thirtle. H. L. Taylor plays W. Franks. E. Rigg plays N. Catherall. W. R. Jones plays H. E. Warner. Absentees lose by default. The match committee hopes to have \the ladder arranged before next club night, and challenges will then be available. The ladder challenge consists of three games.
