THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1, 1921. THE NAVY LEAGUE.
Yesterday, being the fifth anniversary of the battle of Jutland, was celebrated by the local Navy League organisation, when advantage was taken of the opportunity to emphasise five constant necessity for a strong navy. The battle of Jutland was really only an incident in the great war, the course of which was not altered in the slightest by this event. The deciding factor of the war was the supremacy of the British fleet, which compelled the Germans to keep, to their harbours, and enabled the small ships which did the main work for the Allies to keep the sea without interruption. Some Germans claimed tc have gained a victory at Jutland by reason of the injuries they inflicted on the British Navy. But the fact remains that they still kept their harbours after the battle, only to come out in the end to surrender. The test of naval supremacy is ability to make free use of the sea; a»'d by means of the British Navy that was our privilege throughout.
