SCHOOL SPORTS MEETING

THUKSHAY NEXT. Tho first com billed school sports meeting will be held in the public Park, Masterton, on Thursday next, commencing at 11 a.m. Already some of l4ie schools have been busily engaged finding the best runners, jumpers, etc., and large entries have been received. The scheme for the encouragement of athletic sport in the schools originated in a recommendation from the sports committee of the Caledonian Society, and on being submitted to the various schoolmasters was heartily endorsed. Messrs Harland, Cagou and Miller have been specially conspicuous in fostering the scheme, which has the hearty support, of all the teachers. The proceeds this year will go towards the funds of the Cameron Memorial Park; but it is hoped; with the experience gained, to make the function an annual one at which all the schools will meet in friendly rivalry in feats of skill, strength and endurance.
