STORM IN AUSTRALIA.

The fierce storm, that has swept over the wheat areas of New South Wales appears to have done incalculable damage to the crops . This is to be deplored for various reasons. In the first place, the harvest promised to bo a record one, and to provide a huge surplus for export to England and other countries'. All hopes in this direction seem to have been shattered by a cruel dispensation of Providence. A bountiful harvest, with high prices for the merino -wool clip, would have materially assisted in restoring ihe equilibrium. A loss of millions of money as a result of the storm will be a serious setback to the Commonwealth. The hope will be sincerely entertained that the first report concerning the damage done will be found to be exaggerated. In any circumstance there seems to lie little doubt that a calamity has befallen the State of New South Wales.
