RIGHT HON. SIR SAMUEL GRIFFITHS, P.O. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian-N.Z, Cable Association.) , Received Last Night, 9.25 o 'clock. BRISANE, August 9. The, death has occurred of the Eight Hon. Sir Samuel Griffiths, Chief Justice of the High-Court of Australia. [The late Eight Hon. Sir Samuel Walker Griffiths, .P. 0., G.C.M.G., held the high honour of membership of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, and was, at the time of his death, in his soventy-sixth year. Ho hold the-position of Chief Justice of Australia from 1903 until his retirement a short time ago, and was recognised as one of the highest legal authorities in Australasia. Sir Samuel was an Australian, receiving his legal training at the University of Sydney, later obtaining the degree of L.L.D. at the Universities of Queensland and Wales. The late Judge Griffiths had a distinguished political career in Queensland, for many years holding the offices of Minister, Premier, and later Lieutenant-Governor of the State i which he served so well.]
