TRADE WITH AMERICA.

In spite of the adverse exchange rate, it is clear that New Zealand will be compelled to trade with the United States on a large scale for many years to come. A large portion of our raw material and live stock will, of necessity, go to America, and in return we shall be required to take- oil, machinery, motor cars, and manufactured goods. In view of the probable expansion of trade with both America and Canada, it is desirable that wo should have a live commercial agont in each of these countries, who will keep us fully advised concerning the movements of trade. Had Ave such an agont in the United States at the present time, the fanners of New Zealand would have been provided with full and accurate information concerning the operations of the American Meat Trust. Under existing circumstances we have to rely, more or less, upon unofficial sources of information. The money spent upon an active commercial agent in the United States would be returned a hundredfold.
