Mr A. McDonald's horses Torfredn, Murihiku, Strategy, and Prince Martian, are at present located at Iticcarton.
Manawaponga, which competed in steeplechase events at Dunedin, shows signs of having hit several fences very hard.
R. Reed, who was unable to get to Gisborne by steamer, made thq, trip overland, via Hotorua, reaching the» East Coast township in time to ride at the meeting.
The Te Aloha-owned and trained horses, Gold Kip, Sanacro and Sir Agnes, are to -fulfil their engagements at the Hawke's Bay meeting.
Waimai is to remain at Christchurch for the C.J.C. National Meeting, and G. Henderson leaves for the South next week to supervise his preparation.
Owing to the 3 recent developmenst in connection with the jockey's dispute, it is doubtful whether R. J. Mason will be able to get to Australia with Karo and Gloaming.
In addition to Aureate, the full sister to Desert.Gold, F. Davis has several other horses under his charge at Woodville, the latest to join his team being tho colt by Boniform— Sea Queen.
Parisian Diamond failed to land a stake at the A.R.C. winter meeting, and is perhaps not quite as good as previously. He was kept well up in the weights,, and the best he could do was a couple of thirds.
Omahu put up a good showing in the Winter Steeplechase at Elleralie on Wednesday, and if McDonald had been content to wait a bit instead of rushing his. mount to the front nearly a mile from home, he would have given Slowcoach a much harder race, than he did. As it was, it was only over the last furlong that Slowcoach got to him, and Omahu failed to struggle on, the run he was asked to sustain being licyond his powers.
Mr W. R. Kemball, of Masterton, has easily the strongest stable in New Zealand at the present time. His latest purchases, Mill o' Gowrie and Ilekanui, may be expected to win further races before the end of the season. Mr Ivemball is said to be the leading stakes winner of the present season.
Thrace ran one of his best races in the Remuera Hurdle Race at Auckland, for although he was out of a place at the finish he was not a long way away from the winner. The pace set in the early stages had him scratching, hut he was staying on at the finish, though he never really threatened danger to the leaders.
The Auckland Star says : —Gladful was generally expected to be the better, at the weights, of Mr Kemball's pair in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and was going really well when he toppled over at the brush. Old Mungindi plodded on and got third, but was a good way back from the winner at the finish. Old Mungindi should, be better suited by the Riccarton course.
