Dr. Dawson, of Pahiatua, has made tentative arrangements for a trip to Honolulu and the adjacent islands, and propcisos to leave in June next. Mr. Richard Brown, of Master ton, is at present confined to his room, and was unable to preside at the monthly meeting of - the Masterton Chamber of Commerce, held yesterday.

Mr. H. M. Wright, of Eltham, has been appointed by the committee of tho London College of Music, to represent the College in New Zealand in connection with the local examinations (says the Post's London correspondent). Mr. Wright will make Wellington his hoadquarters. Dr. and Mrs. Douglas, of Oamaru, and their sons are passengers on tho Megantic for London. Dr. Douglas, who *is president of tho Oamaru Beautifying Society, paid a visit to Wilton's Bush on Thursday, and expressed great pleasure at the beauty of this reserve and the work that the Superintendent of Reserves, Mr. J. G. McKenzie, has carried out there for the convenience of the public?

A very pleasant evening was held at the Kaituna Hall on Wednesday last, as a farewell to Messrs W. Sutherland and A. Burling and their families, who recently disposed of tlieir farms in tho Kaituna district. The function, which took the form of a social and dance, was very largely attended. During tho evening, Mr. P. Hebenton, on behalf of tho settlers, presented Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland with a suitably engraved silver teapot and cream jug. To Mr. and Mrs. Burling, ho presented a silver cruet, also suitably engraved. Both Tecipi- ' ents very feelingly responded, and thanked the donors for their valued gifts.
