THE PEACE TREATY.
A Presidential Issue.
STATEMENT BY BRYAN. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian-N.Z. Cable Association.) Received Last Night, 7.30 o'clock. WASHINGTON, March 17. Mr William Jennings Bryan has issued a statement strongly opposing the introduction of the Peace Treaty into the Presidential election, which, he declares, should be fought only upon big domestic issues. He states: "I refuse to believe that any considerable number of Democrats will join the irreconcilable opponents of the Treaty, >snd so prevent its ratification. For the Democrats, this course is unthinkable and would be an unspeakable disgrace for ever afterwards." . President Wilson has forwardied his views on the Turkish question to Mr Polk, who is framing a memorandum to the- Allies. It is understood that President Wilson asserts that the Turk has no right to remain in Constantinople, and; should be ejected.
