OUTRAGE AT ROTORUA
* MAN ATTACKED AND ROBBED. (By Telegraph-—Press Association.) ROTORUA, Last Night. About/one o'clock this morning Robert t ßaynor, 60 years of ago, employed by the Tourist Department, and living alone near the Postmaster Bath, was attacked by two masked men, who knocked at the door, asking for matches. He refused to open the door, but opened a small window and placed tho matches within their reach. They again asked him to open the door, threatening to break it down. Raynor armed himself.with a pickhandle, saying he would defend him,self. One of the men threw a piece of i iron piping six feet long through the open window, nearly knocking him | out. They further attempted to open tho door r and struck him with a second piece of piping on the forehead. Raynor opened the door suddenly, and got away, carrying a bag containing 30s. One man followed him, and he dropped the bag ill tho titrec and staggered t<* a neighbouring house, the occupant ,of which took him to the hospital. Nine stitches were put in his head.J The bag Was found empty. The robbers entered Raynor's house, but took nothing.
