THE STRATFORD SEAT.

It will come as a surprise to many to learn that the election for the Stratford seat has been declared void. The law in regard to corrupt and illegal practices is very emphatic, and in this case the illegal practice appears to have teen in the supply of free music and pictures on the night prior to the election. The elected candidate (Mr. Masters) has had no disability placed upon hii4, as is usual in the case of corrupt practice, and consequently he will be entitled to contest the seat again with Mr. J. B. Hine. There will, naturally, be a good deal, of sympathy with Mr. Masters in the circumstances, and it will be a great victory for Mr. J. B. Hino should he win the seat in the byelection. At the general election in December Mr. Masters defeated Mr. Hino by about fifty votes.
