The death is announced from Wei lington of Mr Judah Myerß, at the age of 89 years. Mr J. P. Keen/a respected citizen of Hawera, and an erstwhilo resident of Wanganui, died on Monday last, Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, whose health failed hinj towards the end of his political campaign, is at present confined to his house. Mr H. T. Wood, chemist, of Maeterton, who was reported seriously ill some time ago, shows little signs of improvement. Messrs Ewan Campbell, of Wanganui, and Hector Booth, of Feilding. directors of the Mauriceville Lime Company, were visitors to Masterton yesterday. The death is announced of Mr Robert Ahorne, a well known North Canterbury resident in the early days of the province. The late Mr Aherne came to New Zealand in the sixties, For several years he was clerk to the Ma'ndevillo and liangio/a Road Board, and later was on the literary staff of the Lyttelton Times, and subsequently engaged in journalism in Welling* ton and the West Coast. Prior to the commencement ol business at yesterday's meeting ol the Wairarapa South County Council, the Chairman (Mr W. Perry) moved that a vote of condolence be passed with tho relatives of the luw Cr. J. Strang. Tho Chnirmarf said that tho County had sustained a so vere blow by the death of Cr. Strang. For a long time he had been one ol the mainstays of the Council, and hie opinion on any subject carried ?reat weight. His place on the Council would be difficult to fill Tho motion was carried in sileoce.
