THE WAIRARAPA SEAT.

We heartily congratulate Mr. A. D. McLeod upon his election to represent the Wairarapa in the House of Representatives. To have defeated such an experienced campaigner as Mr. Hornsby, without' outside assistance, is a performance of which, he has every right to feel proud. We trust that by his actions he will jußtify the confidence that has been reposed in him. So far as Mr. Hornsby is concerned, there are not a few who will fegret the termination of his political career. He is getting on in years, and has spent the best part of his life in the service of his country. He stood by the Government on more than one occasion during the last session of Parliament, but, apart from, this fact, he might reasonably be offered a place in "another chamber/' where he would be of some service in the work of national reconstruction.
