Mr Alexander Paterson, who died at Wellington this week, was father of Mr William Paterson, of Masterton.

Mr J. D. Welsman, at one time a prominent resident of Napier, and Councillor of the Borough, died on Monday last at Christchurch.

Mrs H. P. Jones has resigned her position as sole teacher at the Saunders road school, and Miss M. C. McPhee as assistant at the Te Ore Ore school.

Mr Scandrett was appointed representative of the W.F.C.A. Club on the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Cricket Association, at its meeting in Masterton last night. The Hon. Sir Francis Bell, Minister of Education, accompanied by Dr. Anderson, Director of Education, and h.is private secretary, arrived in Masterton by the mid-day train yesterday, and after having discussed High School matters and inspected various sites, returned to Wellington by tho afternoon train. An old and respected settler, "n----the person of Mr Joseph Schofield. of "The Triangle," Tenui, passed away yeßterday morning, after a protracted illness. The deceased, who had resided for about fifty years !n the district, and was seventy-four years of age, had endured all the hardships of pioneer settlement. He (eaves, a family of six sons (two of whom are, members of the Castlepoint County Council) and three daughters. The funeral leaves his late residence for the Tenui cemetery at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
