Master Jack ftfcLood, of "Manga* pari," who has been seriously ill as the result, of what is believed to have been the bite from a katipo, is now much improved. Considerable improvements are at present being carried out by the Otaraia Dairy Company at its factory at Dyerville. The factory is to bo increased in size by building it out towards the road some thirty feet, and enlarging the curing room, with the addition of a bathroom for employees and a stpreroom for the use of suppliers. A new 6 h.p. engine has been installed for driving two separators and other machinery, and concrete flooring is to be laid down throughout. The work has been entrusted to Mr. H. Trotma'n, of Greytown.

The country has been much improved as tho result of tho recent rains,, -and the farmers are looking ahead with all confidence for a good season. Although interfering with the shearing, the rain was much appreciated. ,

On Friday last, Mr. G. A, McClure, Commissioner of Crown Lands, inspected a block of between 400 and 500 acres, which has been placed under offer to the Government by Mr. Arthur Martin, of Otaraia, at pre-war prices. The land in question is that portion of the flat adjoining Dyerville, oppose Mr. F. E. Periy's property, known as Wharekaka. It is understood that the Commissioner has expressed his approval of the land, and will recommend its acquirement for settlement. A meeting of ratepayers will be held to-day to discuss the raising of a loan of £25,000 for the extension of the electric lighting plant and the matter of drainage for the town district.

Mr. C. F. McAllum has received word that his son, Sergt. Charlie McAllum, has left England, and will be home in time for. Christmas. Sergft McAllum, who has been away nearly four and a half years, waa wounded at Fleurs in 1916.

Large entries have been received for the annual cattle fair, to bo held on Monday next.
