LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
It is pleasing to be able to record that a number of settlers in the lower portion of the Wairarapa Valley are voluntarily offering portions of their estates to the Government, practically at pre-war prices,. for occupation by soldier settlers. This patriotic spirit should be emulated in all parts of the Dominion. It is to be regretted that, so far as the Masterton district is concerned, few settlers have yet shown a disposition to, make provision for those- who have done so much to preserve the heritage of the country. There are many largo estates to the east of Masterton which might with advantage be sub-divided for settlement. If the owners of these properties were wise, they would recogni.se their obligation to the soldier?, romembering the while that the greatest protection they have against the extremist is to increase the number of people who occupy the land. Tliey would also appreciate the fact that the only means by whica our financial obligations can be met is by increased production.
