THE SQUATTER.

In a statement made by a member of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society on Saturday the word "squatter" was incidentally used. At a later stage Sir "Walter Buchanan took exception to the use of The term, which he said was frequently used by the Red Feds with the obj?ct of conveying a reproach upon \ useful section of the community. Sir Walter contended that there were no squatters in New Zealand, as squatters .were known in the older world. The settlers referred to were foremost in promoting and supporting k. and P. Association, and wern responsible for the freezing and dairying industries. The word was wver applicable to anyone occupying land n New Zealand. The member who used the term said he was not speaking ra a reproachful manner of the class' to vhich Sir Walter belonged, He recognised that A. and P. Associations md other institutions could not get ilong very well without there.
