TARATAHI-CARTERTON RACING CLUB

MEETING OF STEWARDS.

A meeting of stewards of the Tara-tahi-Carterton Racing Club- was held on Saturday afternoon at Carterton. There was a large attendance, and Mr H. A. Bunny (President) oocuoied tho chair.

The following statement was presented by the secretary:—Receipts: rotalisator £2344 14s, nominations £137, acceptances £76 10s, gate £BB 2s (last year £75 12s), lawn £l6l (£125 8s), motor cars £22 15s (£l6 4s), cloak room 115.6 d (£2 12s 6d), race book £92 16$ (£72), luncheon £8 7s 6d booth £2O, total £2941 16s. Expenditure: Stakes £IO2O, Btamp duty £513 18a 4d, war tax £453 19s, amusement tax £l3 193 lOd, tax on stakes £lO 4s, printing and advertising £72 13s 6d, clerks and gates £3O 19s, handicappor £2l, starter and assistant £22 2s, detective £lO, band £ls, commission on sale of books £ 98s 9d, postages £8 9s 6d, refreshments £6 lis 6d, car and carting £4, sundries £5, balance £724 10s 7d, total £2941 465.

The accounts as submitted were passed for payment. Authority was given to complete the top-dressing of ,the course. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Baskivillo, R. Roydhouse, and L. Smart for assistance rendered in the totalisator house. The secretary was instructed to write the Wellington and Manawatu Clubs in reference to totalisators, ?t being recognised that some forward movement was necessary in the mattert of totalisator facilities.

It Was resolved that the secretary write Messrs Vallance and Bidwell asking them to meet tho stewards with the object of pointing out to them the permanent improvements done during the time the Club was deprived of its race meeting. Mr Hodder stated that the Ground committee had come to the ooaclu.sion that it would be in the best interests of the Club if the'position of secjretaiy and custodian was separated.—A general discussion followed, and it was to defer consideration till the next meeting.
