BRITISH DEFENCE

an Important proposal

IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF.

(By Elect™ Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian*N.Z. Cable Association.) Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock. LONDON, Nov. 13. The Army Committee of the House of Commons has memorialised the Pretftier, urging the organisation .of an Imperial General Staff apart from the War Office, with a central body in London and branches in various parts of the Empire. The Committee points out that the Imperial Conference of 1907 approved of a central body for Imperial defence, with branches overseas. The 'Committee considers the General Staff should be removed from the "War o£gee, in order to free it from administrative details, also that the central body should advice the Imperial Council on land, sea, and air defence, and guide the local branches on general principles, leaving to the branches the local application thereof.
