The Rev. R. S. Gray is expected to deliver an address in Masterton on Wednesday next.

Jennings, M.P., was* entertained nt a farewell banquet by the residents of Taumarunui. prior to ?sis standing for the new electorate of Waitomo. The funeral of the late Mr. A. E. O'Neale. of Feil&nsr, and .formerly of Featherston. took place at the Foatherston Cemetery yesterday afternoon, when the Rev. J. G. Bortlett conducted the service accord in e to the rites of the Church of England. A Blenheim telegram states that the by-election for the Borough Council for the vacancy caueed through the unseating of Councillor William Carr, through non-attend-ance at the.meetings, resulted in the return of Mrs. J*da Redwood. .There were thrpo candidates, and Mr. Carr was at the bottom of the poll.

Information has been received of the denth at Perth oT Mr. William John Suiter, at the 'age of 72 years. Deceased was well-known in Auckland, having had Suiter's brewery at Newmarket many years ago. He was also at one t'me Mayor of Newmarket, and took keen interest in the progress of that borough. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Cecil Wood, late Bishop of Melanesia, has arrived in England from Melbourne, where he Ins been stay : ng with the Archbishop cf Melbourne to recruit his health. Dr. Wood derived much benefit from the voyage, and is now restored to full health. He is once more at work as Rector of Witnesham, near Ipswich, Suffolk.
