MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT
ON rimutaka road. On AVednesday afternoon a serious accident happened to a party of seven who were travelling in a large motor car over the Rimutaka hill towards %h.Q Hutt. The Summit had been reached safely when, in trying to pass a large motor wagon belonging to the N.Z. Express Company, the car went over the side and fell into the gully below. The driver, William Crawford, of Nai-Nai, Hutt, and a young lady of 17 years, managed to spring out clear, but . the other passengers suffered severely. Mrs Crawford, wife of the driver, sustained concussion of the brain, severe cuts on the head, and a broken collarbone; Mrs Pudney, concussion of the brain and a broken wrist; Blanche Pudsey, aged 12 years, a very serious injury to the leg (still unconscious); Walter Pudsey, seven years old, cut face. Tito other passenger, Mr Henry Pudsey, happened at the time to be out of the car getting a drink of ■water. Shortly after the accident Mr G. Hume, who was returning from Wellington, appeared on the scene, and with the assistance of his driver, helped the sufferers up on to the road. He then put his car at their disposal, and a start was. made for featherston. On the way down the Mil Dr. Palmer, who had been rung up, met them, and after doing all that was possiblo under the circumstances, accompanied them to the Grey town hospital, where they received every attention, and are now doing as well as can be expected. The car was smashed to pieces.
