MAORI AND THE WAR.
Although the Maoris of New Zealand who have assimilated with the European race and enjoyed the fruits of civilization have responded freely to the call to arms it is regrettable to i'uid that the Waikato tribes, who are somewhat under the spell of the Ringite influence, are making practically no Government has not, so far, applied the Compulsory Service Act to the Native race, but the time has arrived when the desirability of placing the aborigines on the same footing as Europeans should bo seriously considered. Tho Natives derive all the advantages accruing from British colonization, and they are in duty bound to accept their full share of responsibility for preserving tho integrity of tho Empire. It is not fair to the patriotic Natives that the Waikato tribes should fail to accept their .share of the nation's sacrifice.
