AN APPEAL FROM SCOTLAND
HELP FOR THE WOUNDED. At; yesterday's mooting of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association an appeal'for funds™received through the Mayor of Mastorton—was made by the management of the Scottish Women's Hospital to assist in the discharge of their good work. The Chairman said the appeal was a worthy <xne, and ho moved that .£M(Xj be' granted. Mr Flornsby seconded. Mr Turner: From what fund will 'it be taken? The Chairman: From the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. M;- Whatman said ho would like to see tho amount increased to £SOO. Other'members endorsed this remark. Sir Walter Buchanan, while admitting that the object was a worthy one, expressed the opinion ,that the Association's funds should be jealously guarded. He considered that more information should bo at the Association's disposal before voting such a, large sum. I Mr Card expressed similar views. lie understood that the Wounded Soldiers' Fund was raised ostensibly for the benefit of our own men. Mr Coradino stated that the appeal had been sanctioned by the ■Minister of Internal Affairs, and all the information required wa» contained in the circular letter. After further discussion it was decided, on tho motion of Mr Flanngan, to refer the matter back to the i Claims Board with the object of se!curing further advice from the Advisory Board, and that the Claims Board have power to act. A member: How much will you voteP The Chairman stated that an indication had been received from tho meeting. Mr Matbeson asked if the money could bo legally taken from the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr Coradine said that according to the rules money from the funds 'could be used for the relief of wounded soldiers at home and abroad.
