MUNICIPAL SILVER BAND

THE INSTRUMENT ?I;ND. The following is the text of a circular that has been issued by the Masterton Municipal Silver Band to the various organisations in town:— "The Masterton Municipal Silver Band, presents its compliments, and desires to inform your society that it is proposed to organise a monster effort to raise funds to substantially reduce the debt on the set of silver-plated instruments in use by the band, which are, by the way, public property, they being vested in the Trust Lands Trust for the town of Masterton. Owing to .ne many calls on the public for patriotic purposes since the war began, the band has refrained from making any special appeal,, but- the time has arrived when we must make an effort, seeing that the band, has ':.-jbly responded to every call made en its services, and often at considerable inconvenience to its members. We confidently solicit your -e.irty support and co-operation, and with that end respectfully invite you to appoint two representatives to meet in conference, with the object of forming a strong committee 4 o devise ways and means of organising the effort. It has been that the effort take the form of a gala day in the . Park on Easter Monday, preceded by a monster parade of decorated vehicles, uom a motor lorry down to a .'vM's pram."
