THOROUGHBRED HORSES

FOR MASTERTON DISTRICT.

Masterton will, in the near future, become one of the most important racing centres of the Dominion. A number of valuable horses have recently been purchased by Mr W. R. Kemball, Mr A. McDonald, and others. A further addition was made to the high-class stock of the district at the Karamu dispersal sale yesterday. Mr W. Cooper, of Masterton, purchased the brood mare Straga, dam of Hymestra, Torfreda, and other champions, for 600gns. He also purchased the thoroughbred stallion Hymettus, the sire of Hymestra, for 325gns. A bay four-year-old mare was purchased by Mr T. Higgins for 140gns. Mr A. McDonald, of Masterton, paid 400gns for a yearling filly by Hymettus— Straga, a full sister to Hymestra and Torfreda. This was the highest price paid for a yearling at the sale.,
