GOES OVER TO THE ENEMY

The following official statement regarding a very unhappy occurrence at the front was handed to th e Press by the Prime Minister on Thursday:—• "Information has been received that one of our men is believed to have deserted to the enemy. The man's name was such as not to give any indication as to German origin, and no suspicion was aroused by him prior to the date he disappeared. "Until detailed official confirmation of the truth of the present report has been received, the man's name will not be disclosed. This is being done in order to prevent possible injustice to the parents resident an New Zealand, should the report on investigation prove unfounded."
