MASTERTON RACING CLUB

The ordinary monthly meeting ol the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present: Mr C F. Vallance (in the chair), and Messrs C. J. Bennett, W. B. Chennells, F. Dorset, H. Douglas, 0. C. Cooper, W. Cooper, H. P. Har,vison, J. Macara, D. McLachlan, J. lorns, A. G. Pilmer, A. J. Welch, and G. H. Yates. A letter was received from the N.Z. Racing Conference forwarding list of dates applied for by the different racing clubs for the ensuing season. The President of the Country Racing Clubs Association forwarded a copy of the agenda paper, to be discussed at the annual meeting to be I held in Wellington on 13 th July, and asking the 1 Club to be represented by a delegate.—Mr 0. F. Vallance was asked to attend the meeting on behalf of the Masterton Club. The Otahuhu Trotting Club wrote, asking the Club to make a donation of £IOO and a monthly contribution of £lO, during the continuance of the war, to the fund for the maimed and wounded. The secretary was instruct" ed to reply, stating, this Club had, already given £IOO to the War Fund, and the matter of a further contribution would be laid before the members at the annual meeting to be held on 28th July. ~ Three riew~ members were proposed. It. was resolved, on the motion of Mr Chennells, to set up a committee to draw up a new set of by-laws for the Masterton Racing Club. Mr O. C. Cooper, the Masterton delegate to the N..Z Racing Conference was asked to oppose the proposed new rule giving the conference power to appoint racecourse detectives to act on all courses. The ground committee was authorised 'to erect some more scraping sheds on the course, and continue the planting of trees along the northwestern boundary for about ten chains. The chairman said he had arranged to get the drive from the main road to the course graded. This, he thought, would be beneficial to the traffic on race days. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £525 lis 10d.. A statement of the Farm Account was laid before the stewards, showing a credit balance of £234 odd on year's transactions, which was considered very satisfactory, and a hearty vote of thanks was to ._T\lr W. Cooper for his able administration of the farm during the past year.
